The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the FBI have seized a number of internet domains that were being used by China-linked hackers to operate platforms and forums targeting U.S. critical infrastructure and sensitive government networks.
The operation is part of a broader crackdown on malicious cyber activities aimed at espionage and disruption of essential services across sectors such as energy, transportation, and telecommunications.
Officials stated that these domains served as command-and-control (C2) channels for cyberattacks. Their seizure is expected to significantly reduce the hackers' ability to infiltrate vital systems and exfiltrate classified data.
Washington underscores its aggressive stance against state-sponsored cyber threats through this action, while noting that investigations remain ongoing to uncover more hidden networks and safeguard national security.
This development comes amid escalating tensions between the U.S. and China on multiple fronts, particularly in technology and cybersecurity.
