A report by Grayscale reveals that the United States accounts for roughly 15% to 20% of global crypto activity, based on data from multiple sources including a16z, Chainalysis, TRM Labs, and the University of Cambridge.
The U.S. leads in several key areas, controlling 36% of global Bitcoin hashrate and 31% of Ethereum full nodes, reflecting significant weight in core network infrastructure.
In transaction terms, the U.S. represents 26% of onchain transaction value, 24% of stablecoin payment value, and 22% of merchant payment count. It is also home to 21% of global crypto developers.
In trading and everyday usage, the U.S. accounts for 15% of spot trading volume, 13% of stablecoin and crypto holders, and 12% of mobile wallet users—indicating that American participation in daily activity is lower than its infrastructure and development footprint.
The chart highlights a clear disparity: U.S. dominance is concentrated in mining, development, and infrastructure, while its share in retail trading and usage is comparatively lower—reflecting a market tilted toward institutional and technical infrastructure.
