"Iran’s Rial Collapses to Nearly 2 Million per Dollar as US Tightens Sanctions"

Iran’s national currency, the rial, has plunged to a record low of nearly 2 million rials against the US dollar, as Washington intensifies economic pressure on Tehran.

The crash comes as the US moves to cut off Iran’s remaining economic lifelines, with Iranian oil exports having virtually stopped and the UAE suspending financial transactions with the Islamic Republic.

In response, Iran is increasingly turning to China and BRICS nations, accelerating its shift away from the US‑dominated financial system toward alternative payment mechanisms and local currencies.

The rial’s collapse is expected to fuel hyperinflation, erode household savings, and deepen the economic crisis. It may also push Tehran toward digital currencies or barter systems to bypass sanctions.

Analysts warn that this could reshape regional economic alliances, with the yuan and ruble gaining more ground in cross‑border trade, as Iran seeks new partners outside the Western financial framework.
