Meta is preparing to launch one of the largest restructurings in its history, beginning a major workforce reduction as the company aggressively pivots toward artificial intelligence.
According to reports published by Reuters, Meta will lay off approximately 8,000 employees while transferring another 7,000 workers into AI-focused teams and initiatives. The restructuring means nearly 20% of the company’s workforce will be directly impacted.
Meta has also eliminated more than 6,000 unfilled open positions as major technology firms continue cutting costs while prioritizing AI investments and infrastructure expansion.
Reports indicate additional layoffs could take place later in 2026, with potential new rounds expected in August and again toward the end of the year.
The company reported 77,986 employees at the end of March, with headcount expected to fall to roughly 70,000 following the latest restructuring measures.
