Mexican authorities have seized 300 GPUs from a suspected illicit crypto mining operation located near a hydroelectric dam.
Investigators are examining whether the site was stealing electricity from the dam to power its mining equipment. This is the fourth such operation found in the same area of Puebla since early 2025.
According to Reuters, blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis says cartels are increasingly using crypto mining to launder money, particularly in areas with cheap or stealable power.
Analysts view these operations as a growing security and economic challenge, combining financial crime with critical infrastructure theft, complicating enforcement efforts.
