Donald Trump called on artificial intelligence companies to build, secure, or purchase 100% of the energy required for their data centers as part of a new initiative called the “Ratepayer Protection Pledge.”
The proposal aims to protect American consumers from rising electricity costs driven by the rapid expansion of large-scale AI and cloud computing data centers.
Under the pledge, companies would be expected to help develop new power supply sources, fund electricity transmission infrastructure upgrades, invest in local job creation, and strengthen grid resilience across U.S. communities.
The initiative also emphasizes that major technology firms should bear the energy costs tied to AI expansion rather than passing those costs on to households and utility customers.
