US–Iran Talks Collapse After 21 Hours with No Breakthrough

High-stakes US-Iran negotiations end without a deal after major disputes over nuclear policy and the Strait of Hormuz.

High-level negotiations between the United States and Iran have ended without a deal after 21 hours of intensive discussions in Islamabad, marking a significant setback in diplomatic efforts between the two nations.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance departed the talks after both sides failed to resolve key disagreements. According to Vance, Washington presented its “final and best offer,” but Iran declined to accept the proposed terms.

The breakdown centered on two primary issues: Iran’s refusal to abandon uranium enrichment and its insistence on maintaining full control over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategic النفط corridors.

Iran reportedly entered the negotiations with four non-negotiable demands, including full sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, comprehensive war reparations, the unconditional release of frozen assets, and a region-wide ceasefire extending to Lebanon.

In contrast, the United States pushed for guaranteed freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and firm assurances that Iran would never pursue nuclear weapons.

Vance emphasized that Iran’s decision to reject the offer would carry greater consequences for Tehran than for Washington, stating that “Iran has chosen not to accept our terms.”

The talks marked the first direct face-to-face meeting between U.S. and Iranian officials since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Despite the historic nature of the اللقاء, the negotiations concluded without progress, underscoring the deep divisions that continue to define relations between the two countries.
